Biography

Chung-Hsien Wu received the B.S. degree in electronics engineering from National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1981, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Tainan, Taiwan, in 1987 and 1991, respectively. Since 1991, he has been with the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, NCKU. He became the Distinguished Professor and Chair Professor in 2004 and 2017, respectively. From 1999 to 2002, he served as the Chairman of the Department. He served as the Deputy Dean of the College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, NCKU, from 2009 to 2015. He also worked at Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, USA, in summer 2003, as a Visiting Scientist. He was an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech and Language Processing (2010–2014) and the IEEE Transactions on Affective Computing (2010–2014). He is currently an Associate Editor of ACM Transactions on Asian and Low-Resource Language Information Processing, and APSIPA Transactions on Signal and Information Processing. He served as the Asia Pacific Signal and Information Processing Association (APSIPA) Distinguished Lecturer and Speech, Language and the Audio (SLA) Technical Committee Chair in 2013–2014. Currently, he serves as the APSIPA BoG Member (2019~2021). He was the President of the Association for Computational Linguistics and Chinese Language Processing (ACLCLP), Taiwan (2009-2011).
He received 2018 APSIPA Sadaoki Furui Prize Paper Award in 2018, the Outstanding Research Award of Ministry of Science and Technology, Taiwan, in 2010 and 2016 and the Distinguished Electrical Engineering Professor Award of the Chinese Institute of Electrical Engineering, Taiwan, in 2011. His research interests include deep learning, affective computing, speech recognition/synthesis, and spoken language processing.
